We fund lifesaving research to to tackle heart and circulatory diseases
Story
It has been 2 years since I ran a 10 K event, and even LONGER since I raised some money for the British Heart foundation (2006)! I thought it was about time I got off my arse and did something about it, so I entered at the last minute to be a Heart Runner in the Great Manchester 10K Run that was on .
I did not let people know about it before hand because I fell ill with a chest infection last week…and although I knew I would never quit given the choice I was worried that I really may not be allowed to run.
Please, please give what you can to help me achieve my target of £200, it’s not that much to raise….go on…you’ll get a warm fuzzy feeling inside!
I did it in 58 mins 23 secs you can check on the Great
website under my race number 16622….in case you think I made that up!)Not bad for some one who was essentially jogging and walking:0)
I should point out, I was so feverish that I read the wrong clock (had no stopwatch) that I thought I had done it in 1hr 15 mins. Only checked on Tuesday morning for the official time, didn’t really care…I like my shiny meda regardless!
I did this for my Dad, who I know watches over my family and me. I would have run no matter how sick I felt because his memory is worth it.I miss him all the time:0)
I also wanted to thank my Mummy, Little Brother Vimal and my Beautiful sister-in-law Jaimini, and those friends (you should know who you are) that put me back together again after the trials and tribulations of 2009…I could not have found my way back home without you, love you all more than words can say (especially if you give me cake and chocolate:0)
This is the great insight I gained from watching the world pass me by as I ran on Sunday:
How much better it is to get wisdom than gold, and to choose understanding above silver.
Proverb 16:16
Make of that what you will.
And something my Dad loved (be warned, it’s a long poem, but very much worth the effort, like all the best things in this life):
Desiderata by Max Ehrmann
Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
P.S. I did refrain from eating as much cake as I normally would leading up to the event. Most of you should be aware that it must have been a great sacrifice on my part!
