This year has been a year of transition for me: leaving behind much loved and cherished staff and patients at Barking, Havering, Redbridge University Hospitals Trust; completing my MBA and embarking
on a doctorate at Ashridge Hult, not to mention setting up the quirky Aardvark Ink Ltd.

One of the more unexpected, but extremely welcome opportunities this year has been the chance to join the board of trustees at Bloodwise, the UK's leading blood cancer research charity.

I had my first meeting with them in late November last year and subsequently met an old friend from medical school.

'What brings you to London today?’ she inquired. I explained about Bloodwise. She looked thoughtful for a moment then grinned. ‘I’ve just signed up to do a triathlon with them, next June, at Blenheim Palace’

Within minutes we had shaken hands on a deal to do it together.

Six months later, I’m leaner, fitter and about to take possession of my big brother’s road bike. I am also learning how to exit a wetsuit with the speed and finesse of a Brownlee.
