Story
Dr Abdul-Razaq Abdullah was a frontline doctor who contracted COVID-19 from his workplace and died in the line of duty at Queens Hospital in Romford .
Dr Abdullah practiced medicine for over forty years and worked in the NHS since 1986. His final place of work was Rainham Health Centre in Havering which he established along with the local MP. Over the course of nearly twenty years Dr Abdullah expanded his patient list and services catering to the needs of the local community.
Dr Abdullah was renowned for his generosity and always endeavoured to help the less fortunate. He was loved by both his patients and staff and was known as the 'gentle giant'. Working in the London borough of Havering, one of the worst affected areas in the UK from coronavirus, and being at the more vulnerable age of 68, Dr Abdullah refused to take retirement and continued to see patients. He stated 'I have survived the first COVID wave, let us see what the future brings'.
After contracting coronavirus at his GP surgery, Dr Abdullah was on a ventilator for nearly one month before passing away on the 8th December 2020. He leaves behind five grieving children and a community that mourns for him.
It would be much appreciated in honour of his memory if we could donate to the less fortunate.
The selected charity is Al-Ayn, which works on the ground in Iraq serving thousands of orphaned children who have been impacted by war, instability and poverty. We have chosen this charity as it was a matter close to his heart, having sponsored the school uniform of 100 orphans only two days before his deterioration and admission to hospital.
