Story
Nearly 10 years ago, on 11th August 2012, we prepared ourselves for the worst day of our lives. Our beautiful & courageous mom fought a 12 year battle with a brain tumour against many odds to see us grow up. Even in her last days she showed us unimaginable strength, taking all of the energy she had to fight a disease which was slowly taking her, to remind us she loved us.
We watched her courageously take on every step of her diagnosis through every hospital admission, course of radiotherapy, every scan, having to shave her hair, her sickness, her chemo and every step in between. She showed us true strength and never let it falter. We all owe so much of our strength and determination today to her, as we promised we would carry that through with us even after she passed.
This year, in memory of her bravery and her free spirit, myself my brother and my Dad (yes we convinced him too 😂) have decided to do a sponsored sky dive on 6th August. One of the last conversations I had with my mom in her hospital room was about skydiving and how she always wanted to do one but couldn’t, so we will make her wish come true through us.
We will be fundraising for The Brain Tumour Charity who are the largest dedicated funder of brain tumour research in the UK, who also provide necessary support for those who have been diagnosed & their families. Brain tumours can take many forms, sometimes the type of tumour can mean that they are inoperable and can cause secondary illnesses due to the pressure that the swelling causes - for my mom this was epilepsy which gave her seizures. From a young age we had to witness and prepare for these when they came, which was very scary for us but must have been even scarier and heartbreaking for my mom to have her babies witness. This is one small reason why funding to research new treatments is so vital for this disease.
My biggest fears are heights and planes. So please make it worthwhile for all of us, not only for a good cause but also so none of us can back out 😂 Even the smallest amount would mean the absolute world to us, and if you can’t donate please share if you can 🙏
In loving memory of our mom/Claire 🤍👼
