I am a gamer and a father. I am combining my two passions in this event as I attempt to play a single game for 24 hours straight in order to raise money for Yorkhill Children's Charity.

Each of my own children has visited Yorkhill at some point in their early lives already. The work they do there is incredible. Not only in the care that they provide medically for the children, but also how they care for those who are unfortunate enough to have to spend several days in the wards. There are a number of games and toys available for the children to keep them stimulated during their stay, and it really helps to keep their spirits up.

I will be playing Crusader Kings II throughout the event. Crusader Kings II was the first game that I have played where the death of a character really affected me. It was not long after becoming a parent myself, and the death was the child of the main character I was playing. I sat in silence, staring at the monitor for a good fifteen minutes. I was not only shocked by what had just happened in the game, but about the fact that during the Middle Ages this was a normal occurrence.  Many children died in infancy, as did many mothers during childbirth. Once I snapped out of my shock I was immediately thankful for my family and for the times that we live in, where we have such excellent medical provisions, especially for children, that we no longer have to worry as much about these situations.
