Thanks to those who sponsored me last september in the northern run, the more we raised the more i realised i must not let you all down. It was my first half marathon, and i felt the benefit of your support on wet and cold training days.
Crossing the line was a good sense of achievement.
After all the cancer treatment Frances spall went through i decided to to dedicate the run to her. just when i got past my personal best distance thoughts of Frances spurred me on.
Frances is doing well now thanks to charities like this one. so dig deep. i have paid 100 pound for my race no.40522
I have decided to run for this particular charity for marion shreeve a close friend of our family, who lives in camberwell, london. also in memory of my cousin PETER HALLIDAY, who suffered from leukaemia.
thanks to STEVE RYAN (bexley bus garage) for your donation and passing on the website to CHRIS CARR (belvedere bus garage)who has gone mad (no change then) and donated a bullseye. thanks lads.
one good thing about this running lark is i can do up my top button of my trousers, when there back from the cleaners,
looking on the scales was interesting, jan 1st/05 i weighed 14"10lb, 28th jan i was 13"12lb. being able to do the distance was my goal, but at this rate i will have to get a new wardrobe.
cheers to dave stewart district line tube driver.
Thanks for the growing support of JUBILEE LINE TRAIN DRIVERS at north greenwich (where i work)/wembley park and some managers(john mason 20 quid)/admin staff, collecting over £200 pound so far and some pledges. will tote up and put on final figure shortly.
TIM PLUMRIDGE (instructor operator at greenwich) has dangled the first carrot; a donation(see below) plus 50p for every minute under 5hrs~curse you tim~ means running faster and thats going to be painful the day after, and the day after that and the....
why don't you guess my finish time in your message and see who gets closest, even have a sweepstake on it if your from a group. (sweepstake form in the leather bottle pub). its tough to say a time as its not just running in straight lines, a lot of people sprint off and burn out, then you catch up and they seem to form these walking chat groups that are just casually walking in line blocking the way.
so that can put more time on your run. i ran the great northern run in 2hrs 9mins (13.1miles), but the official time was 2hrs 19m.
it took me ten mins to reach start line after it all started, some people obviously start to close to the front, and block others that are more prepared, some just seem to freeze up as there is a great atmosphere.
getting near to the finish line people and myself were experiencing a flood of emotions as you push yourself and bands are playing, people cheering and willing you on, many people burst into tears when they meet friends and relations at the finish line. if you get a chance to be involved with something like this you don't forget it.

cheers michael fitz'hugh & son in dover your donation takes target over £2000.00
well i done the run, it i got to say it was bloody tough from around 19 miles, its when you start to long for the next mile count board hopeing for the run to come to an end, but your getting slower and your body says no more, its down to will power and the crowds urging you on. at about 23/4 miles you start to realise you've cracked it. The pain in your legs when you stop running to collect your medal/bag is outrageous when you start to try and walk again. thank goodness for the massage in the post race party reception. thanks for your support again. dougie...

my running time was 4hrs 32mins 18seconds. not too bad for a fellow creeping into his forties this year in november. i am trying to enter the dublin marathon in october now, but i do recall thoughts on the17th april "i'm never doing this again" that was around the 19 mile mark somewhere near tower bridge.
thanks to my colleagues at worki who are coming up to me offering money to the cause even after the event, thanks to~ dmt mick crawford £20, dave (shepherd/dunne),trevor giles, raj £10 and i am waiting on a promise from George macinulty for £300.
