Chances are, at some point in our lives, we will all spend time in the hospital emergency department. Broken bones, strokes, asthma, chest pain, mental health crises, sick children and other health emergencies are an unfortunate reality. At Trillium Health Partners (THP), emergency visits topped 277,000 in 2019/20 the second highest in Ontario and more than all the University Avenue hospitals combined. And while demand is growing in step with our population, COVID-19 has further exposed the urgent need for accessible, coordinated emergency care for our most vulnerable and marginalized populations.
