Story
So the story is quite simple really... I gave up playing Rugby almost two years ago and was looking for something new which was out of my comfort zone and would help me lose the weight I had accumulated after 12 months of laziness. I had always been fascinated with the Iron Man and really viewed that as one of the biggest physical challnges out there. On a bit of a whim I was looking at the Iron Man race in Bolton one night and thought, "you know what, I should enter that"....and I did...Instant regret. A non-refundable, sizeable chunk of money, down payment on 9 months of hard training and pain. As I started training I thought, you know what I could turn this in to a bit of a year of challenges to raise some really decent cash for a charity; afterall I have never competed in a half marathon, a marathon, a triathlon, a half iron man, an iron man or an open water swimming event before so really am a novice and it seemed a good idea (dont ask me why) to try and do all of these in one year. So this is my 2020/10 challenge:
- Great North West Half Marathon – 16/02/2020
- Manchester Marathon – 05/04/2020
- Southport Triathlon (first ever Triathlon)–
17/05/2020 - Epic Man Half Windermere – 31/05/2020
- Great North Swim - 07/06/2020
- Iron Man Bolton – 12/07/2020
- Coast To Coast Cycle – Late July
- National Three Peaks – Mid August
- Run the Yorkshire 3 peaks – Late August
- 50k Run October (Possibly the Kings Forrest
Trail Ultra on 17/10/2020)
The charity I have selected (Cash For Kids) is pretty self explanatory, they raise funds for kids who need help...I strongly believe that every person, no matter their backround should get a fair shot at achieving their goals in life and that means having access to a fair chance early on in life. So, if you think the challenge worthy of a few quid, I would be very grateful if you would give some of your hard earned cash. I promise from my end to train hard and do everything I can to complete all of these challenges in 2020! Thanks in advance.
* please note - entry fees for all events are covered entirely from personal finances so any money you give is going directly to the charity untouched!
