Every year, Foundation of Light takes a team of cyclists on an epic ride where friendships are forged, goals accomplished and great memories are made through the Foundation’s Cycle Challenges.
2019 will take us from JURA TO VOSGES MOUNTAINS, FRANCE
The foundation of light is an amazing charity please read below about the charity
Established in 2001 by former Sunderland AFC chairman Sir Bob Murray CBE, our mission is simple: to improve lives through the power of football.
We have grown to become one of the most pioneering sports charities in the world, winning multiple awards for our ground-breaking sports, health, community and education programmes.
The cross section of people we work with is unparalleled within our community; those we work with vary in age from 18 months to 80 years plus. We truly do offer something for everyone, with programmes impacting health, behaviour, attitude, skills, knowledge and more.
Our passionate, dedicated and highly skilled team includes professional teachers, health workers, coaches, family learning officers, youth workers and support staff based at offices and classrooms within the Beacon of Light and outreach centres throughout Sunderland, South Tyneside and County Durham.
Whilst we are linked to SAFC, we are structurally and financially independent of the football club. This means we are responsible for fundraising £4 million every year to run our life-changing programmes.
This year Lorraine and I will be taking on the challenge in memory of my late husband Martyn young who was also a very close friend of Lorraine .
Please donate as much as you can as and we will keep you up to date on the amazing challenge.
