Story
Please dig deep and support LOROS Hospice as part of The Leicester Half Marathon in 2021. LOROS cares for more than 2,500 patients and their families across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland each year. Your help makes all the difference.
Our mum was diagnosed with panreatic cancer at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. I'm not going to tell you of our devastatingly sad journey we took before our mum was transfered to LOROS. Insted, I'm going to tell you why we need Hospices. Hospitals are places that treat and diagnose patients, they do the best they can with terminally ill patients but they aren't the specialists when it comes to dying. Hospices are the experts in dying! The care LOROS gave to our mother was excpeitonal. They made her feel safe, they cared about the little things like brushing her hair and putting cream on her skin, they gave her lemonade to drink when the hospital had her nil by mouth and they supported my children in saying goodbye to their Nana. But most of all, they controlled her pain and gave us, her family trust she was safe in their care. From the cleaners to the receptionist to the nurses to the top consultants, all the staff had such emphathy for the patients and time for their families. I heard a phrase, 'dignity in dying', and never really understood it until I watched our mother close her last chapter with us and pass away. 'Dignity in dying', is exactly what LOROS gave or mother. We call the staff at Loros land angels. LOROS offer an invaluable service but as with all charities their fund raising has been hit hard by the pandemic. Please give what money you can to support LOROS Hospice and help enable them to carry on supporting patients and their families. Thank you x
