Story
As the first anniversary of Mum’s death approaches I decided to do something positive to mark the occasion.
As most know, Mum spent a considerable amount of time under the care of Dr Lawson and the Brearley 4 team at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital. She became incredibly close to a number of people there. These individuals went above and beyond for Mum so, so many times. This included finding a bed for Mum at times when the hospital was full and Mum felt most vulnerable, providing support to me, my sister and brother, relaxing rules so that we could always be with her, putting up with assertive (bossy!) questioning and ordering around from me and not to forget, working with us to ensure Mum died peacefully, with us around her and painfree.
As a gesture of thanks, Esme and I will be walking 10km around the Peak District in an attempt to raise some money for the team.
Mum and I spoke about this idea in her final days, an idea she thought was fabulous.
I know the team are incredibly grateful for what we are doing, particularly as they are feeling the effects of COVID-19, being a respiratory ward.
Anything you can spare would be wonderful and really help spur Esme and I on our way. The Peak District might be pretty and a favourite spot of Mum’s, but it is hilly and not easy pushing a toddler whilst carrying a bit of extra weight myself!
Thank you
D & Esme x
