I have been involved with Riding for the Disabled for the last 10 years thanks to the introduction by a close friend.  My enthusiasm for what can be achieved for people with learning and physical difficulties by having the opportunity to ride has led me to become the Group Organiser for the Stratford upon Avon Group.

I love to see the excitement and pleasure that riding brings to our riders who in some cases have no other form of exercise.  I have seen riders begin to walk unaided because they have developed their core strength by sitting on a horse and have the confidence to trot or ride with no leader.

As a volunteer, it has brought me self worth and a passion to help to keep the Group active.

Our Group has been riding for 41 years but costs have risen dramatically in the last couple, due to a change in venue.  It currently requires upwards of £20,000 in running costs.

This September 30th the Group is taking part in the World's Biggest Riding Lesson.  We are using it as a fundraiser and are really excited about being part of an international event.  Many Groups in other countries such as Australia, USA, Portugal and Canada are taking part.  RDA National are hoping that 5,000 riders will all be riding the same lesson on the same day to make a new World record.

We will be riding our usual riders and have also invited our volunteers, friends and supporters to take part with us.

For almost the first time since a really bad accident in 1985 I will also be riding in the lesson.  This is going to be a challenge but one I will look forward to.
