Marking Teddy's retirement, 13 January 2016
We work throughout the world helping to improve the lives of donkeys and mules

Story

Popular adoption donkey, Teddy, has reached the grand old age of 26. This is an impressive age for any donkey, not least one who is blind.

Just recently, though, he’s started to feel the effects of his advancing years by developing a few problems with his liver and kidneys. He is also becoming increasingly arthritic.

After careful consideration and advice from our expert vet team the difficult decision has been made to retire Teddy from the adoption scheme from 15 January 2016.

Teddy – an
inspirational donkey

Gentle soul, Teddy, has provided inspiration to many. He has overcome the odds to prove that it is possible for a blind donkey to live a fulfilled life.

Aided by his sighted best friend, Lucky, Teddy manages to always be first in line when meals are served, or if there’s a chance to be groomed.

The pair have been devoted friends for over 20 years, arriving at the Sanctuary together in 1993, and Teddy became part of the adoption scheme in September 2013.

Since then he has gained a wonderful family of loving adopters.

Caring for Teddy

Our vet team, grooms and volunteers will be keeping a very close eye on Teddy, monitoring his wellbeing every day, ensuring he has enough to eat, plenty of treats and of course, all the love and attention he desires.

His best friend Lucky remains by his side, along with all his donkey companions in Shelter 3. Visitors are also very welcome to continue to come and see their donkey
friend at the Sanctuary in Sidmouth.

Repaying your loyalty

If you’re a Teddy adopter, then keep an eye out for a letter
in the post to meet a brand new donkey friend.

You can help care too

We have lots of blind or partially sighted donkeys in our
care, just like Teddy, who all need specialist care from our vets and farm staff, and your donations make it all possible.

Thank you for making a difference to the life of Teddy and donkeys like him.
