Story
There is nothing quite like being out at sea or on the clifftops and spotting the dorsal fin of a dolphin or porpoise!
We are so lucky to be able to see Common, Bottlenose and Risso’s Dolphins (to name just a few) in our Cornish waters - and even Orcas (the largest of the dolphin family) in Cornwall in May 2021! But, sadly, more is needed to educate both locals and tourists to Cornwall about the issues of marine disturbance and to work with the local fishing community to reduce incidents of by-catch (whereby dolphins and porpoises are accidentally caught in fishing nets and sadly wash ashore dead).
I have had the pleasure of working in Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s marine team and with some incredible members of Cornwall’s conservation community and know first hand how much great work is being done to keep these well-loved animals in our waters.
By meeting my target of £100, it will allow one volunteer to be trained to monitor dolphins and porpoises at sea - training which I have done before and which fuelled my passion for marine conservation! Whether you have £1 or £10 spare, every donation to my birthday fundraiser will make a massive difference!
