Story
I did it! It was the hardest thing I've ever done. I had to walk most of the marathon and just scraped inside the cut-off time by 10 mins. I'm a Kona Ironman - yippee!!
The highlight of my triathlon career will be competing in the World Ironman Championships (3.8km sea swim, 180km bike ride and 42km marathon run) in Kona, Hawaii on 14th October 2017, when I will be 72 years old. I hope to inspire others to enjoy and benefit from sport. I have chosen to support John Willis's registered charity, Power2inspire (http://power2inspire.org.uk/dons-highway2hawaii/). In the run-up to the Rio Olympics, John, born without lower arms and legs, participated in 34 Olympic sports including triathlon. He called his challenge "Road2Rio". His charity works with disabled and able-bodied children who together benefit massively through inclusive sport. I thought it appropriate to call my effort "Highway2Hawaii". Please donate what you can to help these children.
