Story
I haven't ran a marathon in almost four years now - and I haven't ran a marathon with a focus on raising money for charity for five years so I wanted to change that -- my goal is to achieve the BIG SIX before I'm 35 (that's 4.5 years away).
The big six are the Marathon Majors: London (2017), New York (2018), Chicago (2019), Berlin (2023*), Tokyo & Boston - the last three I've yet to do, the last two I've yet to even get a place.
I'm really happy to be able to bring fundraising into my training and work towards achieving this goal and proud that Anthony Nolan have let me support them whilst I prepare for the Berlin Marathon.
The reason why is because 1 in 19 people in the UK are diagnosed with blood cancer, a statistic that highlights the sheer scale and impact of this disease.
Think of blood cancer as a malfunction in the body's bone marrow - that's where our blood cells are made. It's as if a coding error occurs in the cell production line, causing too many faulty cells to be made.
These faulty cells, unlike healthy ones, can't effectively fight off infections, deliver oxygen throughout your body, or assist in clotting blood when you get injured.
My fundraising target of £1,500 isn't just a number pulled out of thin air, but it actually represents the cost to support one patient throughout their entire stem cell transplant journey.
Obviously everything donation is important, even just £40 can add a potential life-saving donor to the stem cell register.
£100 provides crucial tissue typing tests for four potential donors. This ensures the closest possible match for patients, drastically improving their chances.
A further £160 could fund the first year's vital medical check-ups following a stem cell transplant.
Thank you for your support.
