Story
As many of you will know, my Dad, Malcolm Simpson, was diagnosed with cancer in late 2017 and passed away on the 5th June last year. During that time and even now, the care and support from all at Weston Hospice not only to Dad but to all the family was and is fantastic. Now other members of my wider family are experiencing the same following the recent passing of my cousin, Debbie Maclucas.
I was amazed at the support offered particularly given that 80% of the funding for the Hospice comes from donations and fundraising activities and am proud to do my part to help ensure this care can continue to be given to others at this critical time.
On Sunday 2nd June, as part of the Weston Hospicecare Mendip challenge, I will be running the West Mendip Way in Somerset, from Wells to Uphill, over 48km and with more than 1500m of elevation along the way. Knowing I will be helping this great cause will keep me going and anything you can donate to support this would be greatly appreciated.
Receiving an end-of-life diagnosis can be difficult, not just for the patient but also for their loved ones. At Weston Hospicecare, the team of palliative care experts is dedicated to working together to provide specialist support. Their social, emotional, psychological, spiritual and physical care helps guide people through one of the most difficult experiences they will ever face. With only 20% of their funding coming from the NHS, they have to raise £4 million each year to fund their care - something that's only made possible by the community.
