Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am participating in the Oxfam Trailwalker, as part of a team which includes one member, Naomi Elliot, who will take part in a wheelchair.
Naomi suffers from a rare condition called POEMS syndrome, essentially a blood disorder which affects several of the systems of her body. In her case, it has led to loss of function in her feet, legs and hands, as well as cancer in her pelvis.
Naomi recently underwent a stem cell transplant, following one single, massive dose of chemotherapy. Her road to recovery will be a tough one, but in spite of this she wishes to be the first person to complete the UK Trailwalker in a wheelchair. She will be loaned an incredible off-road wheelchair, called a Mountain Trike, to help her achieve her goal. Her seven team mates, myself included, will be on hand to assist where necessary - particularly the tough, uphill sections.
The course is 100 km long, taking in the South Downs trail between Petersfield and Brighton. We will have to complete it in under 30 hours, including walking through the night. Our aim is to raise £5000 in donations to Oxfam, to help in their fight against poverty. This is where you come in!
To find out more about us and our team goal, please visit www.trailtrikers.com, our website set up and run by team member Andy and Naomi herself.
