I decided last year to set myself one of the biggest challenges of my life. I've never ran a marathon before and felt I needed to take myself out of my comfort zone and give it a whirl. 

I lived in Central America and saw first-hand how donkeys and horses are used to help people with their every day life. Throughout the world there are 112 million working horses and donkeys. These animals directly support the lives of 300-600 million people. "Horse power" is not going away anytime soon in fact it's on the rise, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. These animals are often a gateway out of poverty, so now more than ever it's vital to help these animals in order to help the people who depend on them. 

Governments often ignore the plight of these working equids. The Brooke is an organisation that educates owners, creates links within communities, offers support and advice and veterinary care. The Brooke cares deeply for the health and well being of these amazing animals.
