Story
"What this country really needs, right now… is a Doctor.”
Seeing as we're isolating at home for the foreseeable, I wanted to find a positive way of using the power of Doctor Who to keep people interacting. So, I suggested fans might like to watch some Doctor Who together, to keep us all uplifted, entertained and connected in these strange and uncertain times as we're social distancing to stop the global spread of COVID-19.
I am organising Doctor Who 'watch-alongs'. The idea is simple: we all start watching a particular episode of Doctor Who from our homes (however we can access it) at the same time and join in with a live online chat as we watch.
In addition, new lockdown Doctor Who content has been produced in collaboration with some of the show's former showrunners, writers and actors to complement the episodes we are rewatching together. This content is being home-produced, created remotely as we're all self-isolating and it's available online for all fans to enjoy!
The brilliant people working to create this content have all lent their time and talent for free. I hope their generosity will inspire people enjoying this new Doctor Who content to make a donation to the COVID-19 Film and TV Emergency Relief Fund. Set up by the BFI and The Film and TV Charity, this fund will help support the creative community which has been devastated by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Thank you to all the Doctor Who fans and talents taking part so enthusiastically and positively in these watch-alongs. And thank you for supporting the COVID-19 Film and TV Emergency Relief Fund.
