Done it!!
Thanks for your support and a BIG thanks to Andy T for lending me his "Silver Bullet" racing bike for the big day.
Getting very close to my £1000 target so feel free to keep donating. Apparently an article about my fundraising efforts appeared in "The Ham & High" 'paper so might even get some unexpected donors (thanks if you're one of them!)
The swim was exciting - 1500m fighting for space with 400 other enthusiastic fools. Was very glad to be hauled out of the murky waters at the end. A quick and slippery run to the transition zone, change of kit, and off on the bike for the most enjoyable part of the race. Dry, warm, able to breath easily, and a chance to re-fuel on energy gels and water. Given that I travel by bike through central London every day it was a rare pleasure to cycle at full speed through empty streets. Clocked a decent time and reluctantly came in for the run.
It was 28 degrees in the shade. There was very little shade! My legs felt like jelly. I was disappointed in myself when I had to walk for a few minutes but managed to get it back together and finish strongly. I finished with a total time of 2hours 53 minutes. Not bad for a first attempt, but think I'll stick to the day job!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Leukaemia Research Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support
Simon
