Story

Team DLA Piper took part in the 6th annual London Legal Sponsored Walk in aid of the London Legal Support Trust which provides much needed support to local law centres and advice clinics.

The Law Centres and legal advice agencies in and around London are having terrible trouble maintaining their services in the face of the recession.  Funding wasn't great before, now it's dire.  Meanwhile the need for legal advice and help is rapidly growing.  In areas of social welfare law such as housing, debt and employment the increase in need over the past 18 months has been both swift and staggering.

Specialist lawyers can make a huge difference to the lives of the most disadvantaged people.  They can prevent homelessness, sort out debts, and ensure that people are getting the correct benefits and community care support.  They deter exploitation and challenge discrimination.

A daring team from DLA Piper signed up to the 10K walk and, along with 4,500 others, have so far helped raise £400,000!

These fabulous people are:

Alexandra Pilc; Amy Hammick; Arte Vyas; Bridget Winters; Dan Coonan; Emma Storrs; Fern Wakley; Jared Green; Joe Kelly; Juliet Nwosisi; Karen Rose; Kate Hursthouse; Laura Wright; Lisa Musson; Lisa Nussbaumer; Lois Smith; Mark Churchman; Martin Snicer; Natasha Wilson; Nicky Hogan; Oliver Perez; Olivia Parfitt; Rachel O'Connor; Ramona Simms; Robert Chidley; Stuart Hodgson; and Tracey Saunders.

Half of the money raised by DLA Piper will go to the London Legal Support Trust and half to St Hilda's East Community Centre to assist their provision of legal advice services to local Tower Hamlets residents.  DLA Piper have supported St Hilda's for many years and DLA volunteers have been advising at St Hilda's free evening advice clinic for more than five years.

We were also very pleased to be joined on the walk by Rupert Williams, Director of St Hilda's, and his colleague Imogen Le Patourel.

By donating through JustGiving, the charity are able to reclaim GiftAid on every donation by UK taxpayers and your details are totally secure.

Thank you for your support!
