Story
I am taking part in Run the River 2022.
I am not a runner. I am not sporty. In fact, many have pointed out that I always seem to disappear around the time of the teacher race at Sports Day!
That being said, I am a woman who is passionate about education as a vehicle for societal change.
I am an English Teacher, an Assistant Headteacher, a DSL. I
entered the classroom, knowing that simply talking about building a fairer future was insufficient when less than half of disadvantaged students (45%) meet the minimum entry requirement for most options after school (passing English and maths).
As a Teach First Ambassador and Trustee, I am committed to playing my part to end educational disadvantage as I see the impact that deprivation, poverty and challenging home living circumstances can have on a child's development and progress at school.
It’s Teach First's 20th anniversary year and so in spite of what I’m not (a runner!) I am going to run 5k and fundraise so that Teach First can continue to work with the schools facing the toughest challenges. I want to raise at least £400 because it would provide an hour's careers session for 50 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Careers guidance is transformational for young people so please donate if you can … and wish me luck crossing the finish line!
