Story
In May of 1992 I was hit with the heartbreaking news that my beautiful 5 year old son Christopher Buck had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a form of cancer that starts in the white blood cells and can be detrimental to the immune system. Within two weeks Christopher was admitted to ward M3 (oncology) of Sheffield Children’s Hospital where he started his first course of chemotherapy, during which he unfortunately relapsed and we learned that the NHL had developed into Leukaemia.
At 6 years old Christopher was put through another course of chemo and radiotherapy treatment, this time seemingly successfully.
Fast forward several years and many more ward visits and his treatment was going well and he remained the cheeky lovable boy we all cherished. After tests, we devastatingly discovered that Christopher needed an emergency bone-marrow transplant, a donor was found from the Anthony Nolan bone-marrow register and the transplant took place on the 24th of May 1999. His body rejected the bone-marrow and he sadly passed away on the 31st May.
Through our 7 year journey PACT did an amazing job for myself , Christopher and the rest of my family. giving access to the PACT house and putting together trips to the PACT caravan in Bridlington amongst other things. They’ve had a piece of my heart ever since and we still work closely with them today.
The work they do brings some comfort to parents at what is the most heart wrenching time.
I want PACT to get the recognition they deserve
