Story
We originally signed up to run the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon on the 23rd Sept just because it looked like a cool run to do and it was a good excuse to go to Disneyland. Kieron has a thing about medals and, needless to say, the Disney ones look really good!
We hadn't planned to run it for a charity but then our Uncle Nick passed away yesterday (11/9/18) and his funeral is set for the date that we are due to travel to Paris. We thought about cancelling the trip but with 3 kids in tow (6yrs, 4yrs and 3yrs old) we concluded that Nick would have told us not to - as have the rest of the family. We wanted to do something to pay our respects to Nick and to show our appreciation to the Princess Alice Hospice for the care that they gave to him and the support they provided to our family during his final few days. With the assistance of their amazing nurses, Nick was able to pass away in the comfort of his own home and with his wife and 4 daughters by his side. This meant a great deal to Nick and will always be a huge comfort to his family.
Nick's story is not a one off. The Hospice looks after more than 800 people at any one time and most of the local community know someone to whom it has provided compassionate and dignified end of life care. Indeed, the Princess Alice Hospice was a charity that was already close to our hearts following the care they gave to our friend Andrew in 2012. It needs to raise £9.5m every year in order to continue to provide this level of support so anything you can give would be put to unbelievably good use.
Thank you,
Verity, Kieron and Stephanie
