Story
It has been 12 whole years + nearly 2 month since I lost one of the most important human beings in my life! Not only my Daddy but my best friend. I was his “gal” and he was my “Pops”. We had the most incredible relationship and I often wonder why our time together was cut so short! We literally were two peas in a pod!
We lost my Dad to that awful ‘C’ word- Bowel Cancer at only 54 years of age! He made sure that he was fit, ate healthily - he liked a bottle of red wine now and again mind but he very much looked after himself! He didn’t necessarily have the symptoms that we hear around ‘Bowel cancer’- even the professionals were in disbelief! Therefore I really want to spread the word for people to get checked and to not feel embarrassed about talking about it. As humans, some of us find it uncomfortable talking about poo or discomfort regarding bowel movements but it is so important to make sure any abnormalities or discomfort get checked!!
I feel extremely privileged to have had such an amazing person in my life that I got to call “Dad” for 23 years of my life however, It breaks my heart that my Dad never got to see his three beautiful grandchildren growing up into the incredible small people that they are today!
Since moving to Exmouth I have made some incredible friends, one of which has recently lost her close friend Lyndsey to bowel cancer at a young age. We have teamed up and are going to tackle the challenge of climbing mount snowdon in the dark together in memory of both my Dad and the beautiful Lyndsey ( please continue to read Lyndseys story below)👇 xx
It seems that both my Dad and Lyndsey lit up a room from the moment they walked in! Please, please, please donate, wether it’s a £1 or £20- every donation is very appreciated!
Many thanks for reading my story, love you all lots 😘 Dionne xxx
Many of you will know that we sadly lost our Lyns on 5th November 2021 after a very short battle with cancer. Our lives were completely turned upside down 7 weeks previous when she was diagnosed with bowel cancer that had spread to her liver. Lyns had no symptoms you would expect with bowel cancer and only went to the doctor when she had a pain in her side. From there our nightmare began. Lyns was the most beautiful, kind, caring person. She was a wife to Den, mum to Grace and Dylan, step mum to Lauren, daughter, nanny, sister, aunty and a friend to so many. Her loss has hit so many of us. Lyns motto was about making memories and she would always be snapping her camera to capture these. We wanted as a team to do something in her memory and to also raise awareness about this evil silent killer. Many don't like to talk about poo, won't take a test when offered and may ignore symptoms but if you have any symptoms, such as a change in bowel habit, blood in your stools or even just not feeling yourself then do something about it. It may just save your life.So as mad as we are and because Lyns loved walking and making memories a team of us are treking up Snowdon on 25th August 2023. We will start at midnight and aim to reach the top just as the sun will be rising, enjoy the moment and then trek back down to enjoy brunch together. Times are hard for all of us at the moment and even if our trek just raises awareness then it would be all worth it but If you can spare a few pennies for Bowel Cancer that would be a bonus.Lots of love to you allFrom Lyndsey's Lionesses
