Story
In November 1988 David Williams (Dias) passed away when he was 39 years old. At the time he was the headteacher at Llanfihangel y Creuddyn Primary school.
Every one knew him as Dias, named after the famous Brazilian football player. Dias' football career began in his home village of Pontrhydfendigaid, in 1963
at the age of 14 and he scored a goal on his debut. He attracted the attention of Aberystwyth Football club and played his first game for the club in 1968
and continued playing until 1975. Dias then joined Llanidloes Football club and over 2 seasons scored 118 goals. He then returned to Aberystwyth F C in 1977 and played for them for another 5 years. During his time playing for Aberystwyth he scored 474 goals.
He spent his final years playing for Penrhyncoch, Bont, Dewi Stars and lastly he established Trawscoed Football Club. Unfortunately he didn't play many
games for the club due to ill health.
Dias was a faithful supporter of Wolverhampton Wanderers. One of his dreams was realised a few months before his death, when he had the opportunity to watch Wolves play in a final at Wembley, beating Burnley to win the ' Sherpa Vans Trophy.
Unfortunately Dias died as a result of cancer leaving a void in so many lives.
As a tribute to him, a new stand at Park Avenue was named in his memory. The Dias Stand was officially opened by the world- renowned striker John Charles.
It is now 30 years since we lost him, and in March this year he would be
celebrating his 70th birthday.
Margery, Owain and Sion's wish is to do something in his memory. They
decided to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The idea is to hold a sponsored 70 mile walk over 4 days, visiting the local
Football clubs that were important to him during his football career.
Thanking you for your support in advance.
Diolch am gymryd yr amser i ymweld a'n tudalen Just Giving, wedi ei chynllunio i godi arian i Macmillan Cancer Support.
Ym mis Tachwedd 1988 bu farw David Williams (Dias) ac yntau ond yn 39 mlwydd oed. Roedd yn brifathro Ysgol Gynradd Llanfihangel y Creuddyn ar y pryd.
Roedd pawb yn ei adnabod fel Dias, wedi ei enwi ar ol peldroediwr enwog Brazil. Cychwynodd gyrfa peldroed Dias yn ei bentref enedigol sef Pontrhydfendigaid yn y flwyddyn 1963 yn 14 mlwydd oed ac fe sgoriodd un gol yn ei gem gyntaf. Daeth i sylw clwb peldroed Aberystwyth a chwareuodd ei gem gyntaf iddynt
yn 1968 gan chwarae tan 1975. Penderfynodd Dias ymuno a chlwb peldroed Llanidloes yn 1975 a dros gyfnod o ddwy flynedd llwyddodd i sgorio 118 gol. 1977 dychwelodd i glwb Aberystwyth am 5 mlynedd. Sgoriodd 474 o goliau yn ystod ei amser yn chwarae i Aberystwyth. Treuliodd Dias ei flynyddoedd olaf yn chwarae i glybiau Penrhyncoch, Bont, Ser Dewi ac yn olaf sefydlodd glwb peldroed yn Nhrawscoed. Yn anffodus ni chwareuodd lawer o gemau i'r clwb oherwydd salwch.
Fel teyrnged iddo enwodd clwb Aberystwyth yr eisteddle newydd yn Eisteddle Dias ac agorwyd yn swyddogol gan y seren byd enwog John Charles.
Roedd Dias yn gefnogwr fyddlon tim peldroed Wolves. Gwireddwyd un o'i freuddwydion ychydig fisoedd cyn ei farwolaeth, pan gafodd y cyfle i wylio Wolves yn chwarae yn Wembley yn erbyn Burnley ac ennill Cwpan Sherpa Vans.
Yn anffodus collwyd Dias o ganlyniad i gancr gan adael bwlch rhyfeddol ar ei ol.
Mae 30 mlynedd wedi mynd heibio ers i ni ei golli bellach, ac ym mis Mawrth eleni fyddai yn dathlu ei benblwydd yn 70 oed. Dymuniad Margery, y meibion Owain a Sion, oedd gwneud rhywbeth positif
er cof am Dias trwy godi arian tuag at Gwasanaeth Gofal Cancr Macmillan. Y syniad yw cynnal taith gerdded o 70 milltir dros 4 diwrnod , yn ymweld a'r
clybiau pel -droed lleol oedd yn bwysig iawn i Dias yn ystod ei yrfa peldroed. Diolchwn ymlaen llaw am eich cefnogaeth.
