Story
I'm running the Great North Run - it’s the biggest half marathon in the world with 60,000 taking part. I’m training hard in the hope that I won’t be the last person to cross the finish line!
This is a once in a life time challenge for me and I can’t wait to run across the iconic Tyne Bridge, have the Red Arrows fly over me and do my very best in support of The Stroke Association.
This is a very personal event for me and my family who will be cheering me along the way. I’m from Newcastle and lived there until my teenage years. I’m running in memory of my courageous Mum who suffered a huge life changing stroke which changed all our lives. I’m hoping, like my Mum, my Geordie spirit will carry me along the 13.1 mile journey and in doing so help raise vital money for #TeamStroke.
When my Mum had the stroke it was The Stroke Association who provided me with a lot of support. Sometimes it was educational and practical help in understanding what a stroke is and sometimes it was emotional support. I am eternally grateful to all the Helpline volunteers who helped me and my family.
There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.Stroke Association believes everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke. Your support will help them to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
Any contribution you are able to make will be hugely appreciated by me and the Stroke Association so a big thank you in advance for your support.
Wish me luck!
