Story
My Dad, John Faulkner, was diagnosed with Dementia in 2010 and although this was all new to Dad, myself & my family we soon discovered that Dad was always a joy to be with no matter where the illness took us. We all learnt together on a daily basis what living with Dementia means. There were good days & some not so good but no matter what we managed to still see Dad for who he was. We laughed, we cried, we danced, we sang....sometimes even our conversations, which really helped to get through to Dad. I now believe that Dementia awareness is paramount for people young & old to understand the illness and not to be afraid if they, or a loved one, are diagnosed. Life can still be good. Your loved one is still there, sometimes you just have to look a little closer to recognize them that's all. Dad sadly passed away in June 2012 & his sweetness, personality & life force is still strongly missed every day. It would have been Dad's 90th birthday plus Mum & Dad's 65th wedding anniversary this year so I thought taking part in the Memory Walk would be an appropriate and lovely way to remember both for him.
With all this in mind I would like to ask you if you would support me to take part in the Memory Walk this year and raise much needed funds for Alzheimer's Society.
All of the money I raise will help support people living with dementia and their families, so your donation will make a huge difference.
Even the smallest donation will help pay for someone with dementia to go to a Dementia Café session. There they can meet others, share experiences and feel less isolated. And the more I raise, the bigger the difference it will make. A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.
Thank you for reading this & for giving. xx
