Story
Each year the Community Foundation raises money for fuel poverty and this year we are encouraging businesses to get involved through Challenge 25. In the Wakefield District there are hundreds of people who are still living in fuel poverty and with fuel prices going up and Universal Credit going down, it is more important than ever that they get the help they need. More info here: https://wakefieldcf.org.uk/events/challenge-25/
I wanted to be a part of this campaign as I believe no one should have to choose between feeding their family and heating their homes, but this is becoming more and more common, due to rising inflation and the escalation of fuel prices. However, I'm no marathon runner (look at me!), so what could I do that involved the number 25...?
I have four jobs, various freelancing clients and a business, too. I wear many hats, as they say. Many hats. So, I thought, why not ACTUALLY wear many hats throughout the campaign - as I go to work, to the supermarket, put petrol in, operate Mum's taxi...you know? The endurance is not physical, but I am enduring the humiliation of the general public thinking I've lost my grip on reality as I nip out for bread wearing a fez, or as I try and have a professional meeting with a latex turtle mask on.
If me wearing a daft hat for a month encourages those around me to donate and help make this winter period a little easier for people who are sick with worry, I can do that.
Imagine being in that position. Imagine innocent kids being in that position. Please help.
I'd like to raise as many multiples of £25 as possible (the average cost of a winter fuel grant) to help individuals in crisis pay their fuel bills.
You don't have to donate £25 - whatever you can afford will help those in need...it could be your family, friends and neighbours who are struggling.
Thank you so much.
