Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Alan & I were together for just one wonderful year, that was filled with joy, laughter and love. His attitude was positive and upbeat, despite having been diagnosed with lymphoma 3 years before and preparing for his second bout of chemo when we first met. For Alan the glass of life was half-full, unless it was decent red wine, in which case, the glass was full! I called him Amazing Alan.
The chemo was then followed by bone marrow transplant at LRI early August. We were having a marvellous time as a couple in between hospital visits, fulfilling some of his dreams such as being in the cockpit of a Vulcan bomber and seeing it soar through the skies over Southport, first-ever trip on a canal boat along the Ashby Canal with his family and Captain Alan Cook at the helm, singing along at a Pink Floyd tribute concert in Liverpool, paddling in the coolish waves in Pembrokeshire, flying in an old biplane (Dragon Rapide if you really want to know) and marvelling over the WW2 Spitfires at Duxford.
Three weeks into BMT process Alan died suddenly and we are still waiting for results of post-mortem. We are devastated. How could this happen to a man so full of life, who faced invasive treatments with optimism and fortitude, silly jokes and dogged determination to see it all through? We were making more exciting plans for the future, exploring Canada with sea-plane flight, visiting friends abroad, even tandem parachute jump fundraising for lymphoma research (this last one was Alan, not for me I hasten to add. I can do walking but flying through the air with no plane around me, no thanks!)
I had registered for the Forget-me-not walk just as Alan went into hospital for BMT, never thinking that the worst could happen, but it did. So now I will be putting one foot in front of another, with an ache in my heart and countless tears, missing my Amazing Alan, but hoping that my little bit will help someone else fight and survive cancer.
I would be very grateful for any donations for this worthy cause.
