Thanks for visiting. Here's a little bit about the Cindy Appleyard Foundation, a charity I am very proud to be supporting.
The foundation was set up by my friend Emily in memory of her daughter Cindy. Cindy died in February 2013, aged just 10 months, while waiting for a heart transplant at a specialist children's hospital in Newcastle. She had a genetic condition that had caused her heart to fail.
When Cindy became critically ill two months earlier, her family had to relocate to Newcastle, 150 miles from their home, to be close to her in the Freeman Hospital. They faced the prospect of being there for many months.
The Cindy Appleyard Foundation was set up to financially support families in a similar situation, who have to leave behind their friends, family, jobs and schools with no notice, to be with their sick child.
In the two years it has been going, grants have been given to 75 families experiencing financial hardship while enduring the emotional trauma of having a seriously ill child. They desperately need more money to continue this work. Please give what you can.
