Story
My son Zac was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on his 1st
birthday.
As parents, we must act as his Pancreas and administer artificial insulin via injections, often
up to 8 times per day, whilst keeping a constant check of his blood glucose
levels.
We hope that within his lifetime there will be a medical breakthrough, and
therefore permanent solution, to allow a Type 1 Diabetic's Pancreas to
regenerate and self-administer natural insulin just like the vast majority of
us.
That
is likely to be more of a reality of excellent charities like Diabetes UK
continue their vital research and development and continue to connect with, and
provide data, to pharmaceutical companies and medical professionals across the
world in the search for a cure.
That's why this summer I'm taking the
One Million Step Challenge.
This means taking an average of 11,000 steps per day during the 3-month
challenge from 1st July 2022 to 30th September 2022.
My
job role is desk-based so I normally average 2,000 - 5,000 steps.
For example, on Weds 6th July I purposely did my normal work (desk-job) routine which shows my daily count was just 2,372 steps.
Therefore I will have to push myself to make further efforts every day and
evening to complete extra tasks and challenges to reach my daily goal of 11,000
steps.
I'm wearing a FitBit Charge 5 on my wrist which not only records my steps but automatically uploads my daily step count to this page.
So there's no cheating - it's as accurate as I can hope for!
