Our goal is to provide temporary care and shelter for stray, abandoned and relinquished animals, and to place as many as possible into responsible and caring homes. Although our registered name is Northern Counties Horse Protection Society or NCHPS, we are more commonly known as 'Brysons' - after our founders the late Bill and Marion Bryson.
Suggs arrived at the shelter 6yrs ago after his owner found himself homeless & could no longer look after him, his owner was going to return for Suggs when he was back on his feet but sadly this didn’t happen.
This past year he's been unwell a few times & has always rallied but never back to full health & he took a turn for the worse on 1st January 2016.
Tracy & one of our valued volunteers Sandra, took him to see Helen at Westways & all felt Sugg's time had come, he was very peaceful & with two people he knew very well & loved & who loved him. Our policy is never euthanise one of our animals unless its on the advice of a vet.
Suggs captivated everyone he met with his lovely gentle nature to both children & adults alike but he sadly wasn’t good around other animals & needed to wear a muzzle when he was out for his walks which he never minded. As the years went by if introduced correctly he could share walks & sniffs with other dogs as long as he was wearing his muzzle.
Suggs was one in a million & a very special dog, we are setting up this fund in memory of him to help with the care of some of our other animals who may need expensive attention, for example Bella the Rottweiler who came to the shelter in 2014 aged 6 months with severe elbow & hip dysplasia, this summer Bella needed surgery on her elbows which was very successful & Bruce the Bichon Frise who came to the shelter in 2014 aged 7yrs who needed a tumour removing from his leg & chemotherapy, which again was very successful. It costs in the region of £250,000 per year to keep the shelter open & on average our vet bills are in the region of £2,500 per month, with the Suggs Memorial Fund we will be able to potentially offer more animals in our care expensive treatment that will improve their lives.
We are going to have an award named after him at our annual fun dog show & a plaque on his kennel.
Suggs is now with his other Brysons pals, not needing to wear his muzzle running free & enjoying himself, his memory living on & helping other animals.
Rest In Peace Suggs
