Story

South Africa is ranked by the World Bank as the most unequal country in the world, ahead of 161 countries including Congo and Iraq. In simple terms, this means that children, and especially black children, growing up in marginalised, rural parts of the country have much poorer life prospects; theyre less likely to finish school, less likely to get a degree, and ultimately, less likely to secure a decent job. KHULAs mission is to break this cycle through improving the quality of education children receive, from preschool through to graduation, as well as getting them ready for the world of work. Each year, we support 6,000 children and young people living in the communities around Rorkes Drift and Isandlwana. Learn more at: https://www.khula-education.org/

About the charity

KHULA Education works with 21 schools in a deeply rural and under-resourced area of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. We run pre-schools, offer top-up teaching programmes focused on Maths and English, provide educator development and mentoring support, and have a life skills and job-readiness programme.
