Darren's Challenge - Balmoral, Tour of Ayrshire & KOM Sportive

Run Balmoral 2017 · 22 April 2017 ·
Dementia is devastating. Not only for the person affected, who is robbed of their identity, their memories both future and past, but for their family and friends who see a loved one deteriorate before their eyes.
For 1 in 14 people over the age of 65, dementia is not just a possibility… it is reality. This cruel disease may have already touched your life whether it be a friend, close family member or a colleague at work.
That is why I'm taking part in Run Balmoral, Tour of Ayrshire & the KOM Sportive to raise vital funds to support this ground-breaking research. I need your support so we can support world-leading dementia research at the University of Aberdeen allowing our researchers to continue to understand the causes, develop new methods of early diagnosis and understand disease progression.
The money raised will go towards PET/CT imaging of the brain, which can help researchers find abnormalities that can identify dementia earlier – the key to preventing further disease progression. It will also our researchers to compare how different lifestyles, genders, age groups affect the development and progression of dementia.
Take a look at how your support can help our researchers:
£10 - Could help us compare normal and disease-causing genes helping to diagnose the dementia earlier.
£50 - Could help provide travel for up to 16 people to join a medical study allowing our researchers to conduct clinical trials.
£100 - Could help our researchers to study 200 people allowing us to ascertain if different lifestyles and backgrounds contribute to dementia.
Run Balmoral - 22nd April - 10km
Tour of Ayrshire - 30th April - 70 miles
KOM Sportive - 14th May - 110 miles
Thanks for your support!
