Story
In 2010 our lovely Nan passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer's and dementia. Since then both Mark and I have been wanting to do something to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society, so that they can continue the great work they do in providing help and support for people with all kinds of dementia and their carers.
So after considering jumping out of a plane and various other life-threatening ideas, we've decided to take part in the Men's Health Survival of the Fittest Challenge on November 17th 2012. This is basically a 10k run through Battersea Power Station with various obstacles to overcome. It's described as an "urban assault course". In short, we're gonna get muddy! Take a look at this link to see what we're going to put ourselves through: http://www.mhsurvival.co.uk/londonday.html
We'd both really appreciate any donations, no matter how big or small, to help raise money for such a great cause.
Before we go, we just wanted to leave you with the following facts about dementia:
- Dementia is one of the main causes of disability in later life, ahead of cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke.
- One in three people over 65 will die with dementia.
- Over 750,000 people have dementia in the UK, this figure will rise to over 1 million by 2025.
- Alzheimer’s Society is the leading support and research charity for people with dementia and for those who care for them.
Thanks for taking the time to read our page, and thanks for your support.
