London Landmarks Half Marathon 2018 · 25 March 2018 ·
Oh Blimey! Ok here we go, it's official, I have a JustGiving page, No turning back now!
Hello All! Thank You for visiting my JustGiving page. I know what you're thinking, What on earth is Des signed up to now!? Well, y'know just a little Half Marathon...no big deal *gulp*
That's right! Along with some other lovely people from Mindshare, I shall be running (more like jogging...trotting..power-walking..walking..stumbling...crawling, probably clawing my way through) The London Landmarks Half Marathon taking place on 25th March. We are rallying together to raise vital funds for the remarkable charity Tommy's that helps to support families coping with miscarriages, stillbirths and premature births. Tommy's also plays a vital role into funding medical research to reduce the number of early births and provide the best care for women who experience it.
Thing is, I'm not really a runner (yet!), I have flat feet and prone to shin splints, so this is going to be challenging in more ways than one!
As you may have noticed, I am running the marathon in memory of the bet pal a guy could have, my Dad, Des Senior. Dad passed away in June of last year after a long journey battling heart disease. Dad was adamant to make the most of what life gives you and always encouraged me in everything I did.
The first day back in the office was tough on me, trying to get back to "normal", only someone who has experienced a bereavement knows what that feels like. I was told there was going to be a company meeting, I thought "Great! I can just sit there and switch off [I mean concentrate!]" Little did I know I would become engrossed in learning about the charity Tommy's...and of course the half marathon!
I had a look-to-the-sky moment and asked "Is this your way of telling me get my backside in gear, Dad?" sadly...I didn't get an answer and there was no beam of light that instantly shone down on me but I know his sense of humor, and it's something he would be proud of so away I go!!!
Having a charity like Tommy's that help families would have been very close to my Dad's heart. Although there were no complications at birth, my parents lost a child, their son Paul, to pneumonia. Paul was 4 years old when he passed away. My family endured immense grief losing him so young, but were helped along thanks to the support of family and friends.
If you want more information about Tommy's you can visit their website, www.tommys.org
Please, if you can, I would appreciate any donation, big or small (preferably big) to put towards this worthy cause.
So now it's time to fish-out the trainers, get some decent running playlists together and brave the elements!! Wish me luck! I'm going to need it!!
Thanks for reading you wonderful person!
Lots of Love,
Des
