Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Myself, my Mum (Lisa Bourne) and my Auntie (Jo Armstrong) are running the Potters Arf' Marathon to fundraise and create awareness for an amazing charity so close to our hearts.

Back in May 2019 we found out the devastating news that my Uncle (Des Kirwan) was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

For those who don't know what MND is (Motor Neurone Disease) is an uncommon condition that affects the brain and nerves. It causes weakness that gets worse over time.

There's no cure for MND, but there are treatments to help reduce the impact it has on a person's daily life. Some people live with the condition for many years.

MND can significantly shorten life expectancy and, unfortunately, eventually leads to death and unfortunately too my uncles life on Thursday 24th November 2022.

Knowing how Des was, such a hard worker and big darts fan, this was heartbreaking however right up until the end fought every second to ensure life was as normal as it could have been, not only for himself but for his wife and 2 children who he loved so very much.

Doing a half marathon is a big challenge for the 3 of us but wanted to challenge ourselves remembering Uncle Des and the hard work the MNDA do.

Please donate as much or as little as possible... every penny means so much to us.
