Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page "The Longest Day for Derek". Please dig deep and sponsor us online.

During July 2007, 2 of Dereks sons, Matt and Mark, Dereks youngest brother Howard and Darren, a family friend, will be taking on the challenge of "The Longest Day for Derek" in his memory to support a cause that was very close to him and the family.

Now those of you who knew Derek know how much he enjoyed his golf (mainly watching it from the armchair in later life!) and therefore it seems fitting that our choice of event would fall within this scope out on the greens.

Now before you all have a chuckle and think theres nothing hard about playing a game of charity golf, let us run you through our "alternative" version.

During the day we will attempt to complete the same amount of rounds as a major 4 day tournament in one day.  Thats 4 rounds of golf, 72 holes, 16 straight hours of playing, walking over 16 miles of course, striking the ball an average of 392 times each (over 1500+ combined) and no-one can call that leisurely!

Tee-off will be around 5.00am at Old Padeswood Golf Club (Dereks old haunt) and will culminate on the 18th green at around 9.00pm, at which point the four of us will be heading as quickly as possible to the 19th hole and bed...

Its certainly going to prove to be an extremely challenging event, but one that will no doubt benefit a charity for our suffering and pain, not to mention countless lost balls.

Following the support Derek gave to Nightingale House Hospice during his life, and the time he spent there in his last few days before passing away in November, we felt it only right that the family should continue in his good work by raising as much money as possible for this cause!  For further information about the charity see www.nightingalehouse.co.uk

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Nightingale House Hospice will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.

Please donate generously.

*****UPDATE - due to the lovely summer sun we are having at the moment....the day has been re-arranged for the 13th August following the course being waterlogged at the original time of the event*****

Many thanks for your support.
