Story
On 23rd March 2021 our beloved dad, so sadly & far too early at the age of 54 passed away from cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) after only being diagnosed 10months earlier.
As a family we are completely broken. Our dad wasn’t just our dad, he was our best friend, our biggest supporter, the most amazing grandad, and a devoted husband. His family meant the world to him, and he was at his happiest with us all round the table, laughing & having the crack. He has not only left a massive hole in our hearts, but everyone he met, our dad had a way of making anyone & everyone feel part of the family.
Our world has been turned upside by a deadly cancer which up until 10months ago we didn’t even know existed let alone how to pronounce it. Although cholangiocarcinoma is considered a rare cancer, worldwide it is the second most common primary cancer arising in the liver. However, because it is so difficult to diagnose accurately and early, cholangiocarcinoma is often advanced by the time of diagnosis and so surgery, currently the only potential cure, is not an option. Fewer than 5% will survive one year from diagnosis.
We are asking for support as a family to raise as much awareness of this deadly disease as possible, in the hope that no family has to go through our heartache.
AMMF is the UK’s only cholangiocarcinoma charity, dedicated to tackling this devastating cancer on all fronts: providing information and support, campaigning to raise awareness, and encouraging and supporting research.
