‘I’m doing it for Daisy’
In early February I will join a group of kitesurfers in an attempt to kitesurf 75km across Port Phillip Bay, from Rosebud to Port Melbourne to raise funds for cancer research.
This year I’m doing it for Daisy, my wife’s young goddaughter, who was diagnosed with an incurable DIPG brain tumour in May last year. She passed away in November last year on the night of her 7th birthday, but not before this amazing, generous and courageous girl helped push the boundaries of brain cancer treatment. In a world first operation UK pioneer surgeons treated Daisy by using advanced robotics to implant very fine catheters deep into the brain near the tumour.
Daisy has already inspired fundraising efforts to accelerate the development of advanced drug delivery systems. The funds have been used to purchase new equipment in the research lab, fund new researchers and help raise money towards a clinical trial.
