Story
We have wanted to take part in this canoe race for some time and one morning whilst sitting together in a meeting at work we decided to go for it. Since then we have been training hard in all weathers, taking lots of swims in the canal and slowly learning how to paddle a K2 kayak together. The race involves paddling for 125 miles along the Kennet and Avon canal starting in Devizes in Wiltshire , joining the River Thames in Reading and finishing at Westminster Bridge only stopping to carry our kayak around 77 locks. It's a non stop race and we hope to finish within 26 hours. So as you can see it is a very tough challenge and we are determined to complete it.
To push yourself to the limit inspires us to do this for a worthwhile charitable cause and we have chosen the Alzheimer Society. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease that effects many people in the prime of their lives, it stripes people of their memories, their dignity and their independence and puts a terrible strain on their loved ones. Anything that we can do to help the cause of finding a cure and offering support to those affected is worth the pain and suffering that we will experience in completing this race.
