Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Craig, Matt, Kingston and Joe successfully cycled from Derby all the way down to London (a total of nearly 180 miles!) from the 17th to the 19th of April 2014.
We decided to do this primarily because we recently found out that two of our friends had been diagnosed with cancer and as they are both only 14, this shocked us into realising that anyone can get cancer. Literally anyone. No matter how rich or poor, fat or thin, young or old you are, your life can be threatened by the devastating disease that is cancer.
This thought then led us to look at some statistics and we found out the following facts:
-Cancer rates have increased by 43% in females and 23% in males between 1975 and 2011
-However, mortality rates have fallen by 28% and 20% in males and females, respectively, between 1990 and 2011.
This means that although cancer rates are increasing steadily, the mortality rates associated with this are gradually decreasing. This is largely due to the many different lines of research into cancers and their causes, of which a large amount is funded by Cancer Research UK.
This revelation led us to decide that we wanted to raise some money for cancer research, so that they can continue to fund research into cancers. We decided to do this in the form of a cycle ride, or cyclathon, from Derby to London.
So please, donate to our page so that we can help Cancer Research UK to fund potentially life-saving new treatments.
Together, we will beat cancer sooner.
"One day we will beat cancer. The more research we do, the sooner that day will come."
