Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page. We are a small team of school nurses,  who are fortunate to look after children on a daily basis. Our children thankfully on the whole are all a healthy bunch. However sometimes things can be very different for those children and their families who are affected by childhood illness, life changing events and debilitating conditions. Action medical research began in 1952 funding medical breakthroughs to help save and change the lives of babies and children. It all started with the first polio vaccines in the UK, later helping to develop the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and the rubella vaccine - helping to save thousands of children’s lives and change many more. They recently launched their flagship initiative 'Born too soon' which shines a spotlight on premature birth and the devastation it causes. Each year in the UK over 1,000 babies die due to premature birth and globally it is the biggest killer of children under 5.

Surprisingly medical research tackling childhood diseases is poorly funded in the UK. Action medical research has a critical job to do to fill this gap to protect children.

They are funding more than 60 top quality projects, including Research Training Fellowships, at leading hospitals, universities and specialist centres across the UK.

Current funded projects include research into premature birth, cerebral palsy, childhood infections, juvenile arthritis, leukaemia and other rare and distressing conditions.

Therefore Fundraising is essential as it secures regular support that allow us to plan ahead and ensures that we can fund even more research.

That's where we come in, we are taking on the 'Race The Sun' challenge. This involves cycling 50 miles, climbing the mighty Helvellyn  and kayaking Thirlmere Lake in the Lake District all in one day.
