Story

The MARATHON DES SABLES is regarded as one of the toughest foot races in the world. It has different stages over several days, including a full marathon, and a non-stop 80km stage with participants running through the night. The total distance is approximately 250km and each participant carries a backpack containing enough food for 7 days, their sleeping gear and other equipment.

It was originally scheduled for April 2020, but like everything else it was cancelled. After 15 months of training, going vegan and being tee-total, I was the healthiest I'd been for years. I thought I had this 'in-the-bag' as they say.

However, for the past 18 months I've been suffering from either long-covid or runner's asthma (I still don't know which) and my fitness has suffered badly. This is now going to be a real challenge for me. And at 62 years old I'm no spring chicken.

If you can support me in my quest to raise money for the Royal Marines Charity you'll be helping young men and older veterans overcome physical challenges and mental health challenges. As a former Royal Marine I know first hand the varied work they do for our country, not just conflict, but stepping in during times of crisis.
