Story

THANK YOU to Mrs Holt and all of Year 7 at St Augustine's, Billington for their fantastic donation of £200 - you are all superstars! We will let you all know how we get on x

Welcome and thank you so much for visiting our fundraising page

We are both training hard for The New York City Marathon on 2nd November. Training is going well so far and we are ticking off the miles each week. We decided our efforts should be put to good use and we want to support the valuable work that The Cystic Fibrosis Trust continually undertakes.

http://www.cftrust.org.uk/aboutcf/whatiscf/ is a good site which helps to explain more about CF if you are not sure just how difficult life can be for sufferers and their families.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cystic Fibrosis Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Denise and Alison x

Training update 8th Sept - We both completed The Leeds Half Marathon yesterday morning in just over two and a half hours. A good pre marathon training run with no problems. We both feel well on track for November now.

A note to anyone who has bought tickets... Please write your names on the back and bring with you on the 8th, we are going to put them into a draw for a cash prize

Update 28th September

We both completed The Amelia 10k run for C.F (well Denise ran and I walked with Molly, my dog as I have had a stinky cold

Update 4th October

We both ran 16 miles in the wind and the rain this morning, how's that for dedication? I moaned most of the way round but we did it! We put the world to right and planned our NY adventure. We are going to make the most of it and take in the shops while we are there, would be rude not to really!

Not sensible behaviour I know but we have 18 miles planned for Friday morning  We are going to run to our gym in Preston and reward ourselves with a soak in the jacuzzi at the end so that should help to motivate us to keep going! Will let you all know how it goes.

BIG THANKS to Symon Dickinson for his fab article in this month's Live Ribble Valley Magazine, it is great! Thanks also to Liz McHugh from the magazine. Everyone's help and support is fantastic and really appreciated

Update 24th October

Well last weeks big run went well - we made it with a couple of stops along the way to refill our drinks bottles.

Today....we did our biggie, 21 miles, eeek! This is our last long run before the big day in 2 weeks. All went well, got pomped at by lorry drivers and had workmen singing to us as we passed  See what you miss when sat in a car!! Arrived at the gym and had a good soak and a stretch in the jacuzzi - lovely. Our feet are starting to look a bit manky - not so lovely - but one of the joys of long distance running! Anyway, the next couple of weeks will be a bit easier, we will keep ticking over with runs most days but do not need to go over 8 miles now

Phew - all done!

Well we completed it and have got our medals did it in 5 hours 20 minutes according to our running watches. Would have been quicker but we kept stopping to take photo's of the awesome Manhatten skyline, fantastic bridges and hunky NY firemen :-) that lined the route. The crowds were great, really kept us going.  At mile 23 I felt very odd, like I was going to pass out and really slowed down, felt quite removed from the situation. Denise ran close to me at that point - think she was getting ready to catch me. I guess it was tiredness and low sugar levels (probably not helped by having to be up 7 hours before we ran - we had to be on the bus to the start at 4am as they closed the bridge at 7am), felt fine once I had finished and had eaten a bagel and had a drink though.

There were 63 C.F runners altogether, most of us all met for a drink on Sunday night after the race which was lovely!

Denise has slightly injured herself, she went over on her ankle about 16 miles and Sunday night/Monday her ankle became really swollen and sore. We made a right pair as I hobbled on my stiff legs smelling of Icy Hot (American Deep Heat) pushing her around Heathrow airport in a wheelchair.

She went to A&E when we got home and she has chipped a bone - ouch! So rest is required for a few weeks now.

Saturday 8th November

A good night had by all at Wilpshire Golf Club. Many thanks to everyone who helped make the evening such a success

We have surpassed our fundraising target which is wonderful!
