Denise's WING WALK
Fundraising for Prevent Breast Cancer

Well I did it! Twice! Because the wing camera wasn't working on the first flight and since I hadn't properly learned how to use the Go Pro and consequently only got some footage of my feet and whilst Ray tried to live stream it, the internet connection was not fantastic out in the wilds so I went up again just to make sure I had some proper video otherwise people wouldn't believe I'd done it!
Now - I just need another £26 to reach the £1100 mark so if anyone would like to donate, I'd be really grateful
UPDATE
Oooh heck - I've got my boarding card now for my walk! I hope there's a hotel open somewhere near there! I did notice on the boarding card that it says "This voucher qualifies you for an aerobatic flight including loop the loop". Now an aerobatic wing walk is (and I quote) "a full arobatic ride with a loop the loop, stall turns and rolling manoeuvres". It's usually an extra £359 (on top of the £499 I've already paid - myself by the way, not out of the fund raising money) but if they offer me the chance to do it for no extra, I'll jump at it - probably
Predict. Prevent. Protect. You could call it our mantra. As the only UK charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, we’re committed to freeing the world from the disease altogether. Unlike many cancer charities, we’re focused on preventing, rather than curing. Promoting early diagnosis, screening and lifestyle changes, we believe we can stop the problem before it starts. And being situated at the only breast cancer prevention centre in the UK, we’re right at the front-line in the fight against the disease.
I’m going to do a Wing Walk as part of my 65th birthday "celebrations", to raise money for Prevent Breast Cancer. https://preventbreastcancer.org.uk/about-us/.
They are the only UK breast cancer charity funding ground-breaking
research solely aimed at preventing the disease for future generations.
Their research will one day bring about a world where breast cancer is
preventable and thousands of lives are saved from ever experiencing this terrible disease.
It was very difficult to decide on a charity – my grandfather died of
lung cancer, my mum of stomach cancer, my uncle of throat cancer and my lovely dad of pancreatic cancer.
My husband was diagnosed with bowel cancer and had his lower bowel removed, followed by 6 months of Chemotherapy. The emotional and financial implications were far reaching but this year he celebrated being 5 years cancer free.
Three years ago this year, on my birthday, my daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent surgery, 6 months of very gruelling chemotherapy and 3 months of radiotherapy. She knew her hair would fall out (unlike with Ray’s chemo – different drugs) so after her first session she shaved her head for Brave the Shave and donated her hair to the Princess Trust. I joined her and together we raised over £2000.
Stephanie now faces at least 10 years of a hormone inhibiting drug (plunging her into a false and early menopause)in an effort to stop the cancer returning
I’m also going to have to lose about a stone between now
and then because, quite frankly, I’m too fat for the bi-planes they use
and they didn’t seem impressed with my idea that we use a 747.
So please, please consider donating.
If only to see me make a tit of myself. (No I am NOT wearing one of the
snazzy red white and blue leotards)
