Having been directly affected by suicide myself, I have become increasingly concerned about the number of teenagers taking their own lives. This charity, based in Kilmarnock, where I grew up, was set up by a mum who lost her beautiful, inside and out daughter, Jenna. It only receives private donations.
The charity promotes positive feelings of self-worth in young people by delivering sessions with a music and drama school for implementation in schools and other groups.
It also supports bereaved parents of suicide victims, through group meetings for parents, specialised counselling and an on-line page for communication.
Siblings of suicide victims are supported by Beautiful Inside & Out through counselling or help with funding for play therapy. Mental health and child bereavement training has led to the introduction of activities to help children cope with the loss of a sibling.
They also fund unique memory bears to be made for siblings of suicide victims. The bears are made using material from clothes left by the child’s lost sibling, for comforting cuddles.
