Story

💫Baby Liam Joseph Cunningham 💫
'If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died'

On the 27th September 2021 our world was turned upside down when I went into natural labour and was told those heart wrenching words, 'I am sorry, there is no heart beat'.

Our perfect baby Liam had died at 40 weeks and 1 day old.  Life as we knew it will never be the same.  It's only been 3 short months, and the start of this life long heartache.  The trauma and pain of losing and burying your child is something that no parent should ever have to face.

In Liam's memory we have to make a change. We have to improve systems to try and stop babies dying unnecessarily.  Knowing our son would have been here today in our arms if something had have been noticed, if more scans and checks had have been completed is utterly devastating.  So many if's, but's and and's in our story.

On the 21st May 2022 myself and my husband Stevie are going to do Sands Snowdon Sunrise Challenge in Liam's memory. Climbing through the night to see the sunrise over Mount Snowdons 1,085 metre high skyline will be no small feat. Sands is a UK charity that works across the country to support anyone affected by the death of a baby; improve the care bereaved parents receive from health care and other professionals; and reduce the number of babies who do die by funding research and working closely with other organisations.

One of the things Sands are doing is fantastic research into the placenta and how it functions, or in Liam's case was not fully functioning. This is one of the issues that our Autopsy report has stated contributed to Liam's death and from the short research we have done so far it is clear we are not alone. This is why we have chosen to support Sands.

There is nothing we can now change about what happened to our precious boy. What we want is to help prevent other parents from ever experiencing what we did with Liam.  We want to ensure Liam's death won't be in vain.  This is the path we are now living, we have no idea why we have been given it, but we have to question, improve services and ultimately survive and be strong in his memory.

Please support as much as you can and share this page and awareness of this horrible reality.  Heartbroken is only the tip of the ice berg as to how we feel.  Our wish is for no one to ever be faced with what we have lived through the past few months, longing to hold on to and see our baby boy.

There is so much more to Liam's story and we will spend the rest of our lives trying to make a change.

'They say there is no greater pain than childbirth, but I must disagree.  The greatest pain on earth is carrying and delivering a child you never get to raise'
